RiFLEX Runtime

About the project

RiFLEX Runtime is a universal operating system for developing template-based robotic applications. It is designed to simplify setup and configuration compared to traditional solutions.

Unlike conventional methods requiring complex programming and expertise, this solution offers a user-friendly, non-coding approach with innovative technologies like an easy-to-use interface, predefined templates and drag-and-drop functionality. This allows users, even those with limited experience, to configure applications, reducing setup time to under 15 minutes. It is valuable for enterprises of all sizes and is intended for use in manufacturing and robotic system integration.

Project Partners have defined three project use-cases: Quality Inspection, Pick & Place, and Machine Tending. RiACT will develop RiFLEX solutions according to defined use-cases that will first be evaluated in a pre-industrial environment close-to-real workspots within CTAG Process Lab. Next, it will be deployed by CTAG and validated by the end users (Beko, Ledisson) in real environments. End users will perform an assessment of the solution and contribute to improvement of current procedures.

Challenges

The main challenge is the shortage of skilled personnel to deploy and maintain robotic applications in manufacturing lines. Material costs and reliability have adapted to industry needs, but factories constantly face changes like new part descriptions and processes, which complicates the use of robotics. Relying on third-party services is a common solution, but it limits factory autonomy. Thus, tools that enhance a factory’s ability to independently manage robotics directly improve performance and responsiveness. Addressing this skills gap with such tools is essential for the future of manufacturing efficiency and adaptability.

Solutions

Identified through industry needs, RiFLEX allows users to set up and configure applications in under 15 minutes, significantly reducing setup times and enhancing productivity. Key features include integrated safety measures, compatibility with cobots, grippers, and cameras, a 3D layout design, and an HMI for user-friendly, code-free operation.

Effective implementation focuses on ease of use and versatility, targeting both manufacturing users and engineering providers. This solution aims to boost integration processes and improve performance, with measurable productivity gains and reduced downtime.

Expected results

In this project we expect to advance RiFLEX from technology readiness level (TRL) 7 to TRL 8. As a result, this solution is expected to be validated for entering production with completed documentation and full compliance with obligations and standards of the market.

By leveraging its advanced features and capabilities, businesses can unlock new opportunities for growth, differentiation and sustainability. It offers opportunities to accelerate time-to-market for new products, reduce operational costs through automation and enhance overall productivity and performance.
