Democratization of Industrial Cobot Technology

Prof. Dr. Sebastian Schlund

Collaborative robots (Cobots) have developed into flexible manufacturing tools to close the productivity gab between manual production and full automation. In order to unlock the full potential of cobots in industry, Dr. Schlund’s talk covers the democratization of cobot technology towards non-discriminating access to the design, development and use of technology. As today’s underlying paradigms set high access barriers in terms of prior knowledge and experience and limit/restrict potential use cases, the motivation of democratization of cobot technology is to ease industrial engineering and manufacturing processes towards improved productivity and user-friendliness.

Sebastian Schlund is BMK Endowed Professor for Industry 4.0 at TU Wien, where he heads the research group Human-Machine Interaction at the Institute of Management Science (IMW). Since 2019, he is also responsible for the business unit “Advanced Industrial Management” at Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH. He researches and teaches in the field of digitally and automatically supported work design in manufacturing with a focus on assistance systems, work organization, human-machine partnership, assembly planning and competence development/learning.
