Automation of Visual Inspection and Finishing Processes for Aero-engines

Areoplane engineAeroplane engine

Several manufacturing techniques used in the aviation propulsion segment have reached a sufficient maturity level to integrate closed-loop controls and algorithms thanks to a higher and deeper use of visual sensors and machine learning algorithms.

The AVISPA2 activities will target the integration of automatic visual inspection, automation and digital control technologies to critical manufacturing processes used by aviation industrial leaders (ITP and Avio Aero): predictive monitoring of cutting tool wear; closed loop control of several machining techniques, such as surface finishing of AM parts; and automation of visual inspection applied to parts with honeycomb and surface inspection. The activities will have deep impact on manufacturing techniques that are widely used on the market and will therefore allow great achievements in terms of competitiveness, efficiency and digitization.
