Advanced Manufacturing at the heart of a resilient, sustainable and competitive Europe 

The European Commission has published the Task Force Task Force 5 Report on Advanced Manufacturing, shedding light on the latest trends and developments in the sector. The report highlights the role played by EIT Manufacturing, especially the opportunities it offers for reskilling and upskilling manufacturing workforce.

This report delves into the cutting-edge advancements in advanced manufacturing, emphasizing the need for innovation and collaboration within the industry. EIT Manufacturing, a leading player in the field, has contributed to the report highlighting the organisation’s role in bridging the gap between research and industry, facilitating collaboration among stakeholders, and nurturing a culture of innovation and excellence.

Multiple workstreams and one scope 

The Task Force work comprised four workstreams: 

• defining the scope of advanced manufacturing,  
• identifying the transformative potential of advanced manufacturing with practical use cases, 
• identifying key opportunities and obstacles in Europe’s manufacturing transition, 
• developing a broad policy consensus on “ready to implement” proposals to support that transition.  

Task Force 5 work, in close cooperation with European Commission representatives, involved written collaboration and a series of live and virtual meetings from early 2022 to early 2023. This dedicated endeavour ultimately resulted in the TF5 Report containing recommendations for the industry and the European Commission.

TF5 Report on Advanced Manufacturing Showcases EIT Manufacturing’s Key Role

EIT Manufacturing and its EU Affairs team were invited to contribute to the report, particularly discussing the paramount importance of reskilling and upskilling individuals in the field. The recommendations within the report highlight the imperative of leveraging existing platforms that already offer such opportunities, with EIT Manufacturing serving as an example in this regard.

Furthermore, the report identifies EIT Manufacturing as a success story due to its role in spearheading multiple advanced manufacturing initiatives and broadening the accessibility of EU funding, through facilitation of SMEs’ engagement with the European project network.
