Connected Assets iNteroperability framework Via AAS (CanvAAS)

Industry 4.0Industry 4.0

Asset Administration Shell (AAS) is a promising standard to address interoperability of production assets in manufacturing facilities.

Interoperability enables production equipment to intercommunicate seamlessly, providing new levels of automation and production yields. Manufacturing companies can take advantage of AAS as a main enabler for industry 4.0, but there is a lack of user-friendly tools for training workers in factories to deploy AAS for increased vertical and horizontal interoperability.

The CanvAAS project, which started in 01/2020 is developing a model-driven toolset and a methodology to ease the deployment of AAS design models. This year, CanvAAS will go further and focus on the AAS digital twin implementation for the smart factory by providing a real-time look at how an asset is performing. The toolset’s new features will be tested and validated on two industrial demonstrators through FESTO and Whirlpool use cases.
