Rethinking manufacturing1
“You’re going to be busy and you’re going to design exciting new things but it isn’t going to be like before.”
Description
(23:21) “Now there’s another big issue, which I haven’t talked about is what manufacturing needs to produce. And what it doesn’t need to produce is more fancy widgets, which will last a very short period of time, and then we can throw them away. What it needs to produce is massive amounts of low carbon energy generation systems. Solar PVs, wind power, grids. Building changes, infrastructure changes, everything electric. But not in the way we’re currently doing. We’re going to need frameworks and policymakers to come in and go, actually, you can’t just produce things that you think you can sell. You need to work with us. Within the material boundaries we have and the energy boundaries we have to produce this stuff.”
