Developments, pitches and matchmaking
Developments, pitches and matchmaking. These were some of the activities that took place in the “EITM Deep Tech Dive: Teaching Factory Open Day” that was held in Patras, Greece and was powered by EIT Manufacturing South East and the Teaching Factory Competence Center.
The aim of the event, and of the series that follow, was to start working towards programs and activities that meet the requirements of our industrial partners, including but not limited to EU funded initiatives, and create new B2B relationships.
The key and the noticeable difference to other events by South East office, regarding this event, was that solutions providers had the opportunity to pitch their ideas followed by the reverse pitching of the industrial users, who presented their main challenges and solutions directions. This session was a valuable opportunity for partners to learn about each other’s capabilities and explore potential collaboration opportunities for future proposals and synergies on the spot.
In the beginning of the event, Dr. Niki Kousi, Managing Director of EIT Manufacturing South East, along with Dr. Sotiris Makris, Executive Director of the Teaching Factory Competence Center, opened the conference curtain with the opening remarks, to inform participants about the scope and the goals of the meeting.
In order the participants to learn more about EIT Manufacturing’s activities and calls, a session about EIT Manufacturing’s ecosystem and opportunities followed, where Mr. Aristeidis Katsiorchis, Innovation Manager at EIT Manufacturing South East, and Dr. Vivian Sophou, Business Creation Manager at EIT Manufacturing South East, presented the opportunities for funding, mentoring as well as the open calls and the services provided by EIT Manufacturing South East.
Next it was LMS turn to inform participants about its activities. Prof. Panagiotis Stavropoulos, Laboratory for Manufacturing Systems and Automation, gave a thorough presentation about the capabilities and success stories of LMS and about the projects they run along with the Teaching Factory Competence Center. This session was unique as it gave the opportunity to the participants to see first-hand the success of Horizon projects taking place on Patras premises.
The EITM Deep Tech Dive: Teaching Factory Open Day brought together over participants from academia and industry to highlight the latest innovations. It was also a wonderful opportunity for synergies to be formed and for new partnerships to be forged. I am particularly proud of the high-level of participants, who made this event a success.

Apart from the presentations held at the event, participants had the chance to enjoy a GEMBA walk of the Teaching Factory Competence Center to see the latest demo / state-of-the-art manufacturing processes and technologies coming out of own research and horizon projects. The participants also learned about the possibilities of educating and upskilling the workforce with the programs of the Teaching Factory.
The recent event that gathered solutions providers and industrial users was a success. It was a unique opportunity for these two groups to come together and share their knowledge and expertise. The event highlighted the latest solutions in the field of manufacturing, and it also provided a platform for industrial users to learn among others more about the benefits of using teaching factories to train their workforce.
